Blue Tokay Ltd is a touring exhibitions company specialising in natural history. The company was established in 2010 by Pip Strang BSc, PhD, MA and Nicola Newton BSc hons, MA, AMA. Both Pip and Nicola have worked in museums and have been involved in large capital projects in Newcastle upon Tyne and York. Pip completed her Phd at the Natural History Museum in London. Having become aware of a gap in the market for exhibitions featuring taxidermy and biological material and a need for curatorial expertise with collections, Blue Tokay Ltd was created. Both PIp and Nicola are very passionate about natural history displays and collections and this is the main part of the work they carry out at Blue Tokay Ltd. Blue Tokay tour their own exhibitions which come with cases, interpretation, graphics and interactives. The process of hiring an exhibition will include a digital plan of the space and an agreed spatial arrangement before the hire takes place. They transport the displays using their own couriers and install them on site for venues. The components of the displays arrive in transportation crates and bags which they take away with them once installation is complete. Blue Tokay work very closely with staff, advising how the exhibition might work for their audience. They can supply marketing images which are free to use to promote the exhibition. The first language of the exhibitions is English and they will work with the venue to produce translated graphics to accompany the exhibition. Blue Tokay Ltd aim to make the hire of any of their displays as easy as possible so will facilitate any bespoke requirements as needed. Blue Tokay will also carry out conservation, curation, documentation, acquisition and permanent displays.
