MECHANICAL SOULS is an interactive immersive work inviting groups of spectators to actively participate. The experience transcends the screen and questions our relationship to technology and media. It is also an immersive theatre experience, with a duo of actors experienced in improvisation, who deliver a unique performance each time.
Participants are welcomed as new employees of the company Mechlife, specialised in artificial intelligence. For their first day of training, agent Angela and android Fred will invite them to put VR headset and dive in a case study to analyse the deviant behaviour of a new Mechlife android model that occurred during a worldy event. But depending on the behaviour of each person in the VR film, a real Artificial Intelligence will adjust the edit of the movie in real-time. The A.I. also ensures that each viewer has a unique experience so that all participants have a different perspective on the events.
After the movie, Agent Angela asks the audience a list of questions, questions about their observations, evaluates their ability to analyse and deduce what happened to the failing Android (a key skill for Mechlife agents!). The participants then become actors of the story and collectively build the outcome of the experience through their group choices and social interactions.
