Not only Muses Claimed

Artists such as Sonia Delaunay, Dora Maar, Françoise Gilot, Jacqueline Lamba, Marie Laurencin, Angelina Beloff, Nadia Leger, Dorothée Tanning, Leonor Fini and Milly Possoz have been recognised by the great creators and intellectuals of their time, while at the same time they suffered obstacles, only because they were women, which made very difficult their triumph as artists.

All of them have been recognised for their work as Sonia Delaunay, who was the first living woman to have her work exhibited at the Musée du Louvre. But throughout their lives, and even today, they are overshadowed by the names of their partners: Diego Rivera on Angelina Beloff; Apollinaire on Marie Laurencin; André Breton on Jacqueline Lamba; Picasso on Dora Maar and Françoise Gilot (still alive and centenarian); Fernand Leger on Nadia Leger; Max Ernst on Dorothée Tanning and Leonor Fini; Robert Delaunay on Sonia Delaunay or Eduardo Viana on Milly Possoz.

The exhibition focuses on the paper as one of the most widely used creative supports by women throughout history and includes watercolour, drawings and different graphic techniques (woodcut, etching, lithography and pochoir).
