Inferno
The poet, writer and politician Dante Alighieri is considered the father of the Italian language. Nicknamed “sommo poeta” (“supreme poet”), he was the first man of letters to use the vernacular in Italian literature. His main work, the Divine Comedy, is considered one of the masterpieces of world literature.
Inspired by the scenes represented in the 19th Century French artist Gustave DorĂ©’s engravings, Inferno (hell) recreates exceptionally realistic scenes offering a three-dimensional shape to Dante’s visions of hell.
Charon, ferryman of souls in Hades, the Furies and the Harpies, many mythological creatures and animals belonging to medieval bestiaries, together with historical characters – met by Dante during his imaginary journey – who remind us of the historical events of the time.
A scary, beautiful, educational and entertaining exhibition.
