Key Experiences

What can one of the sea’s most unusual-looking mammals tell us about the future of our oceans?

Narwhal: Revealing an Arctic Legend offers insights into the relationship between narwhals and our changing global climate through the work of Arctic researchers and experience from members of the Inuit community. This exhibition features a 16-foot fiberglass model of an adult male narwhal suspended from the ceiling. The model is surrounded by banners, graphic panels, objects cases and models that involve audiences in the narwhal story.

Knowing Nature: Stories of the Boreal Forest focuses on the biodiversity and global importance of the our northern-most forests through first-person stories, authentic objects, interactive experiences and exquisite photography and videography.

In a carbon-conscious world, boreal forests are significant, storing 2-3 times the amount of carbon as tropical forests. Boreal forests provide nesting habitat for over fifty percent of migratory bird species. Many of our most familiar back-yard birds started their lives in the boreal. Indigenous peoples have lived in these forests for thousands of years and today, their knowledge offers a vision for a sustainable future.

This timely exhibition integrates the themes of climate change, Indigenous perspectives and the relationship between people and nature. It takes audiences on a learning journey that starts with curiosity, builds empathy and leads to action. Knowing Nature offers stories of resilience, strength and hope in a changing world.

Insectopia is home to no fewer than 32 giant moving insects. Kids are challenged throughout the exhibition to figure out what happened to the team of researchers. They left their camp and their experiments resulted in giant insects. The exhibition starts with an intro video, and ends with an outro video where the failed experiment is explained. Throughout they can find information labels and audio stories. A booklet was also developed with extra questions and challenges.

A GIGANTIC ADVENTURE WITH MORE THAN 80 SPECIMENS OF ANIMATED DINOSAURS
