Banksy: Genius or Vandal? is an interactive exhibition dedicated to the famous and enigmatic British artist. The exhibit is designed to be an unprecedented immersion in the artist’s work and offers a unique journey through more than 80 authenticated works that belong to several private collectors.

Throughout the history of film, costume jewelry and accessories have been relied upon to help bring characters to life. Details such as these are often overlooked by an audience, but are, in fact, exactly what make Disney characters unique and timeless. In this exhibition we will take a look at the beautifully designed crowns, tiaras, watches, rings, bracelets, and more that have helped support some of our favorite moments in history of The Walt Disney Company. 

The photographer, filmmaker and artist, Agnès Varda, spent 70 years creating a personal work which was fundamentally rooted in its time. She was a trailblazer of the New Wave movement and one of the rare women of her generation to have had a successful career as a filmmaker. 


Her filmography boasts over forty short and feature-length films between fiction and documentary, including her greatest hits, Cléo from 5 to 7 (Cléo de 5 à 7) (1962), Le Bonheur (which won the Louis Delluc Prize in 1965), Vagabond (Sans toit ni loi) (which won a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1985) and The Gleaners and I (Les Glaneurs et la glaneuse) (2000). 


Her early interest in painting and literature, along with her experience in theatre, strongly shaped her conception of the seventh art. A globetrotter and artist of conviction, Varda also paid close attention to the world and social upheavals. The themes of feminism, ecology and marginality transect her work, making it very relevant to the modern day. 

Aiming to reignite respect for our essential and complex biosphere, Our Time on Earth explores different ways of existing on Earth, particularly in the face of the climate crisis. Featuring 12 new collaborative commissions that include: A Biological Future for Fashion by BIOFABRICATE supported by Parley for the Oceans; The World Beneath Our Feet by Holition with George Monbiot; and the Sonic Waterfall by Silent Studios with Damon Albarn.


A journey through immersive, interactive installations and digital works, the exhibition is an exploration of radical ideas for the way we live. Where technology brings us closer to nature, and indigenous insight reconnects us to our roots. Enter the story of our future, with perspectives spanning art, science, activism and more.


This timely and unique exhibition encourages visitors to take an active role and leave feeling empowered to make positive change.

This exhibition is currently in development with plans for a May 2023 premiere in North America. Please stay tuned for updates as we uncover Julia’s story; her passion for French cooking which began when she moved to Paris with her husband, Paul; her graduation from Le Cordon Bleu; then returning to the U.S., soon becoming a fixture on public television and an influence to millions.

The exhibition will consist of photographs, personal objects and memorabilia, multimedia, and a replica television studio kitchen. It will be accompanied by an exhibition catalogue and custom merchandise.

This traveling exhibition is being produced by Flying Fish in collaboration with the Napa Valley Museum, under rights granted by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts and The Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University.

THE ANIMATION ACADEMY

The Animation Academy explores the unique world of animation, from traditional hand-drawn cels to exciting breakthroughs in stop-motion and CGI.

Visitors will create their own stop-motion animated shorts, learn about the art of storyboarding, go behind the scenes with artists and animators, and enjoy America’s largest 3D zoetrope. Each display and interactive activity features the participation of industry leaders, from original hand-drawn cels to real stop-motion maquettes.

„There’s only one planet earth, which we share” – Chinese photographer Lu Guang (*1961) came to this conclusion through his work. Lu Guang engages with the socio-economic and ecological issues of industrial China. The country, which has no oil reserves of its own, produces and consumes more coal than any other nation on earth. “Black Gold and China. Photographs by Lu Guang“ is Lu Guang’s first solo exhibition in Germany. It provides an insight into the work of one of the most important Chinese photographers.


Lu Guang’s photographs reflect the consequences of unrestrained coal mining and highlights the accompanying environmental destruction, the extent of which is causing international concern. His work strikingly showcases air pollution in Hebei Province as one of the collateral damages upon which China’s rise to international economic power is build.


Yet nature is not the only thing sacrificed in order to win this economic race: Lu Guang’s powerful pictures also capture the social realities of those living within these industrial landscapes, often in poverty. The exhibition focuses on the hard physical labour, the dangers and the poor living conditions affecting the miners. Additionally, it shows how humankind influences the environment, changing and often even destroying it.


The exhibition follows the chronology of Lu Guang’s travels through his home country, from Inner Mongolia’s “sea of coal” to the “cities of steal” at the eastern coast of Hebei province. The photographer’s numerous journeys started in 1995. At first, he captured his experiences on black-and-white film, nine years later, he started to use colour, and ever since 2005, he takes all his pictures digitally. The 22-year-long project was finished in 2017 and documents Chinas extraordinary economic development. Nowadays, China produces and consumes half the world’s coal.


With his work, Lu Guang makes a valuable contribution to the documentation of the environmental destruction following the exploitation of geological resources in a country that has developed into a quickly growing economic superpower from the beginning of the 21st century onwards and has become one of the main trading partner to many nations – including Germany.

The exhibition uses the case of the Chinese coal industry as an example for phenomena that can be found in countless coal mining areas around the world and throughout time.


Lu Guang has won several renowned international photography awards. This exhibition at the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum shows over 100 photographs, both in colour as well as in black-and-white, and is accompanied by a comprehensive educational programme.


The Deutscher Kunstverlag published a 160-page-long, generously illustrated catalogue. It includes texts by Lu Guang, Robert Pledge, Hu Donglin and Sandra Badelt.

Photographer Levon Biss painstakingly examined 3,500 historical specimens to select just 81 for inclusion in the exhibition, highlighting those with the most striking evolutionary adaptations and stories.


Many of the specimens date back to the early 19th Century and were collected by the pioneering botanists of their time, including those on the Challenger Expedition in 1872.


The images allow the audience to appreciate and study these tiny specimens in levels of detail normally only available with the use of microscopes.

Introduction


How does a small child see the world? What is the child’s worldview like?

After becoming a father, photographer Sami Parkkinen became interested in the way a child experiences the surrounding world and examines it through play. As years passed, observing the child’s world developed into a collaborative art project between father and son.

Creativity and freedom, the basic everyday ingredients of a child’s life, seem to slip out of the grasp of adults all too often. For an empathetic adult, though, sharing the child’s experiences with them can be an opportunity to access that lost openness.

Becoming a parent often brings to surface the new parent’s own childhood experiences.

Father and Son is largely about joy, love, shared experiences, and life as viewed from a child’s eye height.

Step by step, the child engages with the world, becoming the person they already have the potential to be.

As the child’s living environment has expanded, the collaborative art project has also reached outside the walls of the home, developing and acquiring new nuances.

With a child, repeating a pattern does not work, constant renewal is a must. Branching out in various directions is natural, it keeps the work alive.
