National Museums Scotland is one of the leading museum groups in Europe. With one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world, they are responsible for the acquisition, preservation and display of a substantial part of Scotland’s cultural, historic and national heritage.

Millions of local and international visitors enjoy their four museums each year, and they also introduce their collections to a much wider audience than can physically visit their museums through, touring exhibitions, loans, community engagement, digital programmes and research.

The Exhibitions & Displays team deliver a busy schedule of exhibitions each year; maintain 25,000m² of displays in galleries, and deliver a national and international touring programme. With over 3.2m physical visits each year (pre-Covid figures), National Museums Scotland prides itself on developing great content based on high production values and excellent maintenance processes.

They are looking for two highly motivated, creative people with excellent communication and project management skills to join the Exhibitions and Displays team. One post is fixed term for 18 months and the other is fixed term for 12 months. Both are full time – 37 hours.

As Exhibitions & Displays Officer, you will manage the development and delivery of informative, engaging and visitor-focussed special exhibitions, touring exhibitions and displays (permanent galleries). You will work with multi-disciplinary internal project teams as well as external resources to ensure completion of projects to agreed objectives; and you will enjoy working to find solutions and provide expert advice in a highly paced environment.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have a track record in project planning and procurement and have experience of working in the museum sector or in visitor/heritage attractions. An understanding of the potential of museum collections and the experience of working closely with curatorial colleagues on such projects is desirable.
