Description

From the creative minds that brought you Coraline, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, and the Golden Globe® -Winning Missing Link, LAIKA and MoPOP present Hidden Worlds: The Films of LAIKA.

Known for their wildly creative and timeless films, Portland’s LAIKA Studios has been reinventing the art of stopmotion animation for more than 15 years, fusing traditional techniques and revolutionary new technologies in their pursuit of exceptional handmade storytelling.

This traveling exhibition showcases the creativity, artistry, and innovation that make the studio a global leader in stop motion animation. Visitors will be immersed in the “hidden worlds” of LAIKA — both the magical settings the characters inhabit and the behind-the-scenes wonders of producing these modern classics.

Highlights:

  • An exclusive sneak peek at LAIKA’s next film, Wildwood, based on the critically acclaimed book by the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy
  • Explore recreations of six LAIKA worlds, including a full-size version of the iconic Other World tunnel in Coraline
  • “Become a LAIKA character” to create and share your own stop-motion scene
  • Take a “puppet’s-eye-view” by controlling mini cameras embedded in an actual LAIKA film set

Key Objects:

  • Hundreds of sets, puppets, and props from all five LAIKA films: Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Missing Link
