Description

Directly from Centrale Montemartini in Rome, Italy, comes the groundbreaking first-ever exhibition of Roman mosaics showcased outside of Rome! Colors of Rome showcases an array of ancient Roman mosaics and statues that beautifully encapsulate centuries of Roman history, mythology, and lifestyle. This exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Roman art through its motifs, iconography, and cultural significance.

Presented in five chronological sections, the exhibition begins with an overview of mosaic art history and techniques. It explores mosaics in various settings—domestic, religious, and funerary—culminating in a display of luxurious colored marble and precious mineral mosaics, providing insight into artistic trends and the societal motifs of the era.

Comprising mosaics of varying materials, from polychrome to marble, along with carved marble statues, Colors of Rome highlights everything from floral motifs to mythological figures. These pieces were found in homes, temples, necropolises, and public spaces.
