The Disgusting Food Museum. A name you can taste! The allure and fascination of the weird, different, macabre, and the disgusting will pull not only the regular museum visitor, but also the adventurous foodie, the culturally curious, the challenge seeker, and many more on the broad scale of humanity. Struggling to attract new visitors to your venues? This is how you do it!
We introduce an international exhibit dedicated to culturally unique, and often considered disgusting, food. More than that, we offer an evolved level of immersion, that goes beyond the mundane physical and visual aspects of pressing buttons and watching screens, into an emotional immersion never before experienced. Come take a journey from anticipatory fear, worry, and disgust to pride, joy, and the unbridled power of having overcome a challenge. Do you dare to try it all?
Along this innovative experience all your senses will be poked and prodded, but the visual aspect alone is strong enough that your visitors will have ample opportunities to create viral moments for social media. With a strong scientific foundation we will provide a hopeful angle to sustainability challenges and cultural understanding, with food as the eternal connector. Is our word not enough? Then trust the numerous mentions in traditional media, such as The Economist, New York Times, The Washington Post and Le Figaro.
Disgusting Food Museum, Malmö, Sweden
The exhibition contains actual food and normally includes a tasting bar, and as such, requires fridges, freezers, dishwashers and running water to keep hygiene at peak levels.
The Disgusting Food Museum is an immersive experience with star objects such as Sardinian maggot cheese and Chinese bull penis, but also the interactivity of a tasting bar where visitors get a chance to actually taste of the exhibited items for themselves. The exhibition texts are short and interesting, meaning nearly all visitors read the whole sign for the exhibited items.
The exhibition normally contains 80 exhibited items, varying from objects displayed on tables, to images, to tv screens. For smaller venues, some of the exponata can be removed to fit, and larger venues can be filled with our temporary exhibitions, adding up to 40 additional exponata.
