Description

Unlike what we are used to, art in North Korea is a matter of state and is closely related to socialist ideology and the legitimacy of the Kim dynasty.

The exhibition shows how the regime uses socialist realistic art to create and maintain a utopian North Korea. In North Korean society, visual art plays a special role.

Can art that is supposedly socialist-realistic teach us anything about the North Korean reality? This unique exhibition is a cooperation-project between the Drents Museum in Assen/The Netherlands and Expona.
