Description

“Ancient Rome:  The Empire That Shaped The World” Is a a touring exhibition for Museums, Science Centers and galleries by award-winning Artisans of Florence (est. 2004). In 2010 “Ancient Rome: The Empire that shaped the World” was proudly awarded the Italian President’s medal for cultural innovation.

This award-winning exhibition brings to life the lost and forgotten technology and inventions that set the Roman Empire apart from the rest of the Ancient World and which continue to influence us to this day. By reconstructing Ancient Roman technology using the same materials and techniques used by the Romans thousands of years ago, we can learn so much more than we could from studying archaeological finds and ancient texts exclusively. Recreating the machines also offers us the unique opportunity to use some of these incredible inventions to understand how they work firsthand.

Engaging Historical Themes:

  • Military Might (I came, A saw, I conquered)
  • Transport and Logistics (all Roads Lead to Rome)
  • Constructing the Empire (Rome wasn’t built in a day)
  • Arts, Leisure and fearsome Gladiators (Bread and Circuses)

Visitors are invited to explore Roman culture, art, and engineering through engaging interactive displays. Discover the military, transportation and construction technology of the Empire that shaped our modern world Featuring catapults, aqueducts and the secrets of the Colosseum.

Ancient Rome is truly a hands-on exhibition for all ages.

Testimonials

“By every metric, the exhibition “Ancient Rome” was a success. It became a highlight of our city’s spring calendar, which means it was a terrific revenue generator for the museum. We maxed out our capacity for school tours, touring several school groups every single day. Our education staff especially appreciated the supplementary materials, which facilitated engaging crafts and activities for children. But the exhibition was even more popular with adults – in fact, one of the most popular exhibitions we’ve hosted”

Meg McCrummen Fowler – Director of the Mobile Museum of History, Alabama, USA

“Our visitors found the exhibition fascinating, and the show’s combination of history and STEM learning was well-suited to our museum. The low-tech interactivity of the displays and the quality of the videos made the entire experience extremely hands-on, compelling and informative. Our staff worked very well with the crew from Artisans of Florence, who were very accommodating. Our average daily attendance was up 9% over the show that occupied our fall slot the previous year. I heartily recommend Ancient Rome.”

Paul Bourcier – Curator at MOSH, Jacksonville – Florida, USA
