The Other Picasso. Back to the Origins reveals an intimate side of the artist, exploring how his Andalusian roots, family memories and Mediterranean heritage shaped his creative universe. The exhibition traces his return to the classical and personal sources that inspired his constant reinvention.
In this perpetual return to his family and cultural roots, Picasso sought to push the boundaries of his own artistic language by exploring lesser-known avenues, including dance, literature, and ceramics.
The exhibition’s narrative underscores Picasso’s ambition to challenge conventions and evolve his art by continuously delving into the past—both his personal and familial history, as well as the classical civilizations that influenced his childhood in Malaga, Andalusia. This region profoundly shaped his character, as it was his birthplace and home until the age of ten. During these formative years, he was immersed in an artistic environment nurtured by his father, a museum curator and drawing instructor, who also happened to be his first mentor.
