The journey begins in misty forests, under a canopy of light and shadow. Glowing rune stones tell of ancient times, while the signal horn calls you to venture deeper. Amidst this mysterious natural setting, Yggdrasil – the world tree – awaits you: it holds an impressive virtual reality experience that transports you into the heart of Norse history.
The highlight of the exhibition is a spectacular, immersive show experience: the life of the Vikings becomes tangible in an elaborate audiovisual production featuring projections, music, sound design and lighting. Inspired by old Norse sagas, songs and historical sources, the show tells the story of Aslaug – a woman who became queen as the wife of Viking king Ragnar Lodbrok and ruled over an entire empire, while her sons carried the Viking legacy out into the world.
You travel through villages, see the assembly of the ‘Ting’, witness departure, conquest and expansion – right through to funeral rituals and archaeological finds that still have an impact today.
VIKINGS – Explorers and Conquerors combines sound historical information with emotional storytelling, state-of-the-art technology and poetic imagery.
