Exhibition Manager
Barbican International Enterprises
Permanent Contract, Full-time (35 hours)
£36,060 - £40,750 per annum, inclusive of London Weighting depending on experience
United Kingdom, London

We’re Europe’s largest multi-arts venue presenting a diverse range of art, music, theatre, dance, film, and creative learning events.

Barbican International Enterprises curate and develop exhibitions at the forefront of digital technology and innovation. Our curatorial approach explores the rapidly changing world we inhabit and our co-evolution with technology. We create unique collaborations across art, science, technology, and popular culture, offering a fresh, global perspective on urgent issues. We produce holistic environments in which contemporary art, immersive experiences, historical artefacts, design, videogaming, and music provide an unparalleled creative exploration of essential narratives. Our exhibitions differ from a traditional museum or art gallery experience. They occupy a physical space, but with predominantly digital and interactive works.

There is an opportunity to join our BIE team as an Exhibitions Manager to oversee the development and International touring of elements of BIE’s exhibitions programme. Please note this role involves working outside of the UK for periods of 2-3 weeks with the Barbican providing accommodation and travel while abroad.

We are looking for someone with an interest or demonstrable knowledge of art, visual culture and exhibitions. You’ll have:

  • Extensive previous experience in exhibition production and/or curation.
  • Excellent communication skills and aim to provide the highest level of service to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure both independently and as part of a dynamic and supportive team
  • Experience in developing and managing large scale projects
  • Experience managing teams of technical staff and liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders across projects.
  • Experience of working internationally in the cultural sector

The BIE team is currently working remotely, and we have a blended model of part working in the office and part remotely. If you need flexibility in how you work, we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits including a great pension scheme, season ticket, cycle to work scheme, free access to museums and galleries, discounts on retail, healthcare and on-site cafes and restaurants. You’ll have access to Employee Assistance Programme, trained Mental Health First aiders and City of London staff networks. We worked hard over the last year to make our office and public spaces Covid-safe and have rigorous safety measures and practices in place to support it.

We hope for the role to start end of January/early February (subject to notice periods).

Closing date

03/01/2022

Notes

Please note that we're unable to accept late applications.
Interviews will take place from Wed 5 Jan 2021

We welcome applications from the widest possible range of people and are particularly keen to encourage interest from Black, Asian & minority ethnic candidates who are currently under-represented within the BIE team. We’re also a member of Disability Confident scheme, and you will have an opportunity to indicate if you would like to be considered through this scheme in the application process.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this role further, please email us at bie.office@barbican.org.uk.
