Job scope
The Travelling Exhibits Sales Manager manages all operational aspects of the Museum’s travelling exhibits business. Primary responsibilities include marketing and booking travelling exhibits to achieve annual revenue goals, developing annual budgets and financial forecasts, maintaining strong relationships with licensors and prospective clients, leading the travelling exhibits team in maintenance and fabrication of components and props, and customer support. This position also supports design services sales, as needed, and supports the VP in new business development research, planning and analysis. This position directly supervises the Travelling Exhibit Coordinator, Exhibit Props Specialist and 1-2 interns or volunteers.
Essential functions
  • Marketing and Sales: Market and book travelling exhibits to existing and new customers to achieve annual revenue goals. Design and implement marketing strategies focused on building a strong brand identity and successfully booking venues for all exhibits. Oversee the production and distribution of marketing materials and collateral, including exhibit catalog, TE website content, and trade show materials. Identify and solicit leads; negotiate, draft, and execute contracts; and build strong relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Financial Management: Develop budgets and financial forecasts for the travelling exhibit business. Forecast and track travelling exhibit revenue for the current and future years and analyse P&L and cash flow scenarios. Prepare, maintain, and reconcile annual budget expenses; scheduling expenditures and analysing variances. Ensure all payments are made by customers prior to exhibit delivery.
  • Department Leadership: Oversee the travelling exhibits team in maintenance and fabrication of components and props, and tour logistics. Lead the Travelling Exhibit Coordinator and Exhibit Props Specialist to ensure that all host museums receive the highest level of customer service and that all exhibits on tour are kept in optimal condition while responsibly maintaining museum resources. Work with staff to resolve, troubleshoot and document exhibit issues. Oversee annual on-the-road refurbishment and planning. Obtain and evaluate host museum condition reports and final reports and measure customer satisfaction.
  • Planning and Development: Identify and research new exhibit topics and brands. Initiate and develop strong relationships with current and potential licensing partners. Participate in new business planning, researching and analysing new earned revenue opportunities.
