Shokkan: Material Encounters in Japanese Art by the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is open at ROM in Toronto, Canada, until 7 September 2026. This first-of-its-kind, ROM-original exhibition explores “shokkan”, the sense of touch at the heart of Japanese art, presenting over 80 objects from textiles and armour to ceramics, lacquer and contemporary works, with interactive hands-on experiences.
