GIANTS is a family-friendly exhibition of epic proportions from the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
Did you think that dinosaurs were the only giants ever to have populated our planet? This exhibition invites you on a journey through time, from the Paleogene to the Quaternary to discover the mesmerising but often overlooked giant creatures that lived after the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Meet eleven animals of spectacular dimensions, like Otodus megalodon, the mightiest shark of all time, and Gigantopithecus blacki, the Asian monkey whose size is equivalent to three orangutans.
The exhibition includes six life-sized 3D giant models and five nearly complete skeletons. It includes multiple interactive and hands-on experiences designed to place visitors in the shoes of a palaeontologist and to conduct their own research. Immersive projections invite you into the natural world of the giants. Visitors will discover who the giants were, how they were discovered, what advantages did their immense size offer and why did they eventually face extinction?
New giants have emerged since, such as elephants, rhinoceroses, and whales, but they are now under threat of extinction. This exhibition also serves as a poignant reminder of nature’s fragility and the urgent need to protect these animals for future generations.
The exhibition is curated by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
A minimum ceiling height of 3.6 metres / 11.81 ft is required for GIANTS.
Booked: September 2024 to June 2025, Europe.
